Integrating AI into Revenue Cycle as a Strategic Priority
Date/time: April 16, 2026, 12-1pm, virtual via Zoom
Registration Fee: FREE to members and $15.00 for non-members
Healthcare organizations are facing growing financial pressure while also needing to invest in access, technology, service line growth, and workforce development. Behind those investments is a critical but often underappreciated engine: revenue cycle performance. In this NESHS webinar, Michael Mercurio, co-founder CodaMetrix, and Heather Dunn, SVP, Revenue Cycle at Novant Health will discuss why revenue cycle management has become a strategic priority—not just an operational function—and how artificial intelligence is beginning to transform its effectiveness. Through a conversational discussion, they will explore how AI-powered tools are improving coding accuracy, reducing administrative friction, and strengthening financial performance, ultimately enabling health systems to generate the resources needed for strategic growth and innovation. Attendees will gain insight into why strategists, planners, marketers, and service line leaders should be paying close attention to revenue cycle transformation and the role AI will play in the next phase of healthcare operations.
Speaker Bios:

Michael Mercurio is the former Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations at Mass General Brigham (MGB) in Boston, MA. He co-led one of the country’s largest centralized hospital and professional billing organizations, serving more than 15,000 providers and collecting almost $15B in annual net revenue.
Michael is also a Co-Founder of CodaMetrix, an MGB spinoff that leverages proprietary AI-based technology to eliminate a large portion of administrative costs in the complex end-to-end healthcare reimbursement process. CodaMetrix also significantly reduces the administrative burden on physicians from the healthcare revenue cycle, giving them more time to focus on patient care, clinic operations, teaching, or research. Michael has spent his entire career in healthcare, holding various practice management, operational, and consulting positions. He is a Co-Chair of his class’s Annual Giving Campaign, a founding member of the non-profit East Coast CORE (an educational, Epic-focused user group organization), and a former advisor to both the Revenue Cycle Leaders Forum and UnisLink.

Heather Dunn, MBA, FHFMA, CHFP, EHRC, CRCR is the Chief Revenue Cycle Officer at Novant Health, recognized for her innovative leadership in transforming the patient financial journey through technology and operational excellence. Previously, she made significant advances at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, notably improving price transparency and patient pre-payments, launching Tennessee’s first price transparency tool, and integrating automation into all aspects of Revenue Cycle. At MD Anderson Cancer Center, she pioneered revenue cycle transformations using advanced technologies such as IBM Watson-powered coding and integrated workflows. Heather is a respected thought leader, frequent speaker, and contributor to industry discussions on healthcare consumerism and innovation. She holds an MBA in Healthcare Informatics, a BS in both Healthcare Administration and Information Technology, and multiple certifications by the Healthcare Financial Management Association and Epic Systems.
